Vintage Bushkill Salmon Fly Reel by McVickar & Son
A remarkable piece of American angling history, the Bushkill Salmon Reel was designed in Tuxedo, NY, by H. Kane McVickar and his father in the post-WWII era (late 1940s to early 1950s). Produced in very limited quantities under McVickar & Son, these highly collectible reels are celebrated for their distinctive engineering, robust construction, and striking mid-century aesthetic.
Built to handle powerful fish like Atlantic salmon and steelhead, this massive 4 1/4" diameter reel is an incredible addition for both discerning collectors and vintage tackle purists who want a standout performer on the water.
Key Features & Design:
Distinctive Aesthetics: Features a striking contrast design with black anodized front and back plates paired with a bright aluminum spool, pillars, handle knob, and machined foot.
Innovative Drag Assembly: Equipped with an adjustable, ball-bearing check/drag system controlled by an off-center knob directly on the spool face, allowing you to seamlessly adjust from a free-spool feel to a firm, commanding click.
Heavy-Duty Capacity: A wide-spool design built to hold heavy fly lines with ample backing (approximately rated for WF12 + 250 yards of backing).
Provenance: Proudly stamped on the back plate: "Bushkill Salmon Reel / McVicker & Sons / Tuxedo NY".
